Pyrite with Quartz & Covellite Fengjiashan Mine, Hubei, China
Pyrite with Quartz & Covellite Fengjiashan Mine, Hubei, China
MINERAL DESCRIPTION
Discover the beauty and power of this stunning Pyrite Quartz Cluster, sourced from the renowned mineral-rich region of Hubei, China. A harmonious blend of Pyrite (often called “Fool’s Gold”) and clear, shimmering Quartz crystals with covellite.
The Fengjiashan Mine is a large copper mine, and like many other copper deposits, it is associated with a range of secondary minerals that form through the oxidation and alteration of the primary copper ores. These secondary minerals often include covellite, as well as minerals like malachite, azurite, and chrysocolla. The presence of covellite, particularly with its distinct blue coloration, is a common occurrence in the oxidation zones of copper-rich deposits, especially those with pyrite and chalcopyrite.
