A mesmerizing display of nature’s optical artistry, this iridescent Turgite specimen hails from the historic Ojuela Mine in Mapimí, Mexico. Often referred to as 'iridescent iron,' this piece is an intimate intergrowth of Goethite and Hematite, coated in a nanometer-thin layer that reflects a full spectrum of spectral colors. From deep indigo and electric blue to fiery orange and gold, the 'oil-slick' iridescence shifts dynamically with every change in light. We selected this specimen for its vibrant color saturation and its substantial, display-ready presence, representing one of Mexico's most celebrated mineralogical treasures.

Preservation & Display

The rainbow colors of Turgite are created by incredibly thin surface layers; as such, the iridescence can be sensitive to abrasion and skin oils. To preserve the brilliant color play, we recommend handling the specimen only by its edges and displaying it in a dust-free environment. This piece truly comes alive under bright, directional LED lighting, experimenting with the angle of light will reveal hidden bands of color and maximize the spectral intensity of the specimen.

All specimens include a label bearing the mineral name and origin as well as provenance label(s) for the specimen, if any.

Note: Each piece is handpicked for quality and uniqueness.
