A mesmerizing display of nature’s optical artistry, this iridescent Turgite specimen hails from the historic Ojuela Mine in Mapimí, Mexico. Often referred to as 'iridescent iron,' this piece is an intimate intergrowth of Goethite and Hematite, coated in a nanometer-thin layer that reflects a full spectrum of spectral colors. From deep indigo and electric blue to fiery orange and gold, the 'oil-slick' iridescence shifts dynamically with every change in light. This specimen’s rainbow iridescence, caused by micro‑textural iron oxide layering and surface oxidation, produces a subtle but striking optical effect.
